PLS offers a comprehensive range of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes, all designed to provide a high‑quality, bespoke training experience. Every route leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with the option to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

We provide training across both the Primary 3–7 and Primary 5–11 phases, as well as a broad selection of secondary subjects, ensuring that aspiring teachers can specialise in the age range or discipline that best aligns with their interests and career goals.  The secondary subjects offered are:

School Direct Salaried QTS Only

What is it?

An employment‑based teacher‑training route where the trainee teacher is employed by a school as an unqualified teacher and trains on the job in at least two schools + the PLS training centre.  The school direct salaried route offers QTS only.

Salary

Salaried trainee teacher will earn an unqualified teacher salary, which varies by school and region.

Cost

Employing school covers the training fee for the QTS, so the trainee teacher does not pay the fee.

Funding Available

Salaried trainee teacher is not eligible for bursaries, scholarships, or student finance.

The PGCE is available for school direct salaried trainee teachers at a fee of £1,950, payable by the trainee teacher, not the employing school.


Post Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship OTS Only

What is it?

An employment‑based teacher‑training route where the apprentice trainee teacher is employed by a school as an unqualified teacher and trains on the job in at least two schools + the PLS training centre.  The PGTA route offers QTS, as well as the Level 6 Post Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship qualification.

Salary

Apprentice trainee teacher will earn an unqualified teacher salary, which varies by school and region.

Cost

Employing school covers the training fee for the QTS, so the apprentice trainee teacher does not pay the fee.

Funding Available

Apprentice trainee teacher is not eligible for bursaries, scholarships, or student finance.
